We buy what we cover
Products are purchased at full price wherever possible. We do not let free PR boxes set the agenda.
We judge on what matters
For oils and ancestral ingredients, that means origin and sourcing, whether the oil is cold-pressed or refined, the full ingredient list, any additives or fillers, and price per ounce. For brands, we look at formulation, the evidence behind the claims, and transparency.
We use it before we score it
Where we publish a hands-on verdict, it follows a minimum of six weeks of consistent use, documented with consistent photography. Until that testing is complete for a given product, our guidance is clearly framed as research and ingredient analysis, not a hands-on result. We would rather be honest about that than fake it.
We stay cosmetic
We never make medical claims. Hair and scalp care is cosmetic. If a product needs a medical claim to sound impressive, that tells you something.
