Heritage Store Castor Oil: The Glass Bottle Standard

Heritage Store Castor Oil: The Glass Bottle Standard

Heritage Store Organic Castor Oil is the glass-bottle option in the brand’s castor range: its product page lists traditional glass bottles in 16 and 32 oz. The standard Heritage Store Castor Oil is much cheaper, and its page does not name the container. If glass matters to you, buy the organic one.

Which Heritage Store castor oil comes in glass?

The Organic Castor Oil page says it is cold-pressed and hexane-free, with "16 and 32-oz traditional glass bottle options" and a new 16 oz pump-style option. Image descriptions on the page show a brown bottle.

The standard Castor Oil page, sold from 2 oz to 128 oz, makes the same cold-pressed and hexane-free claims. It does not state glass, and a brand-wide note on that page says Heritage Store uses post-consumer resin bottles.

What does it cost?

The 32 oz glass bottle is the best value among the organic sizes. Glass also costs you something: it breaks, and it is awkward to pour from onto a scalp.

Why does glass matter for castor oil?

Castor oil is thick and sits for months in a bathroom. Glass does not absorb smell, does not flex when you squeeze it, and can be refilled or recycled. That is my reasoning, not a Heritage Store claim, and none of the pages show a storage test.

Pour what you need into a small dropper bottle, and keep the large one out of a hot shower. For how the oil behaves on hair, read castor oil for hair growth and what castor oil actually does for hair.

Heritage Store also sells a castor oil roll-on format, listed at $9.99 for 3 oz, if you want the applicator instead of a pour bottle.

Verdict: buy the 16 oz organic glass bottle if you want the packaging and the organic name. Buy the standard oil if you only care about price per ounce.
