Read the first five ingredients, not the brand name
If dimethicone or cyclopentasiloxane sits in the top three spots, you are holding a styling serum. What it will not do is feed the scalp or penetrate the shaft, whatever the card at the display claims.
Plant oils listed first behave differently. Where these oils disappoint you
Fine hair is the named failure case. Rich blends formulated for coarse or coily hair flatten fine hair by lunchtime, and careful dosing only partly fixes a formula that is simply too heavy. Scalp application is the second disappointment: occlusive oils over an already oily scalp build residue that needs a clarifying wash, and if your breakage comes from mechanical damage, oil masks the symptom while the snapping continues.
